Safe Words Comedy Showcase

Looking for a night of laughs and good company? Come join us at the Safe Words Comedy Showcase, a monthly queer comedy event at the SF Eagle Bar in San Francisco's Leather Cultural District.

Featured recently in the Bay Area Reporter, and the podcast "Stereotypes" Safe Words is produced by Team Wonder Dave and hosted by Wonder Dave himself. This event features a diverse lineup of comedians, including both established and up-and-coming queer talent known for their unique perspective and clever punchlines. You can expect a night filled with laughter and good vibes, as well as the opportunity to discover new and exciting comedians.

  • Emily Van Dyke (@emilyvandyke765) she/her | bisexual — We are thrilled to announce a special evening with Emily Van Dyke. Originally from the Midwest, Emily is known for her love of best friend tattoos and telling inappropriate stories at baby showers. She has opened for both Colin Quinn and Judah Friedlander, and has performed in SF Sketchfest. Her unique brand of comedy has made her a local favorite in the Bay Area, and we are so excited to have her on the Safe Words stage for her extended set.

  • Justin Lucas (@JustinLucasComedy) he/him | gay — When Justin Lucas isn’t performing stand-up, he’s writing and performing sketch comedy for companies such as Killing My Lobster, or brushing his hair. He’s performed at SF Sketchfest, San Jose Improv, and Cobb’s Comedy Club. The Bay Area Reporter dubbed him Best Male Comedian during the same year he discovered that a Vietnam Vet is not a Vietnamese Veterinarian.

  • Marcus Williams (@mwillyumz) he/him | gay — Marcus Williams is a stand-up comedian known for his unique perspective on life, which he shares with audiences through his sharp humor and keen observations. He has performed at several prestigious comedy festivals including the 2022 Red Clay Comedy Festival, SF Sketchfest, and is a regular at the SF Punchline. Additionally, he has been featured at the Comedy Central Bay Area Clusterfest Showcase.

  • Edna Mira Raia (@potatoesmashedcomedy) she/her | lesbian — Edna Mira Raia is an award-winning comedic writer, an 18 year resident of San Francisco and a recent graduate of The Second City Chicago. She is a Jill of many trades, from mime to sound designer. Her solo shows have toured nationally. She teaches sketch writing, improv and clowning and produces socially conscious theatre. This year she hopes to land a writing workshop for late night television. Her YouTube series is called "Tater Sprouts" and you can find her on instagram under her drag name, Tater Tatas!

The show takes place at 7pm every 4th Wednesday of the month at the SF Eagle Bar. Tickets are available for a suggested price of $15-$25, but ultimately are 'pay what you can'.   • It means you can set your own price, and we won't turn anyone away for lack of funds. While we segguest a price of $15 - $25 we've had people pay anything from $1 to $100 (looking forward to breaking that record!) Proceeds are used exclusively to pay comics and promote the show.

  • Like we said, what is important to us is to have you come and laugh with us. If you do not feel like you can afford a ticket right now and would like to secure one for $0, use coupon code “NOTAFLOF” - and if you find you have some extra cash on hand day of, you can tip the comedians on venmo or in the tip bucket. <3

  • Yes! If you show up without an eventbrite ticket we can accept payment in cash or via venmo, and there is an ATM at the door. That said, getting tickets in advance REALLY helpful and appreciated. Ultimately, we want you to do whatever allows you to show up, bring friends, and laugh with us! :-)

  • Our goal is to make a space for queer comedy by queer comedians, but every so often we'll book one of a variety of Token Straight Women ™️️ - turns out, being a woman in comedy is similar to being queer in comedy.

  • COVID continues to be a pain in everyone's ass - especially those in our community who remain vulnerable to the diseise. Masks and vaccinations with current boosters are heavilly encouraged. Masks will be provided at the door if you do not have some already

  • While the weather is cold, the show takes place on the SF Eagle indoor stage - but a live color video and audio feed is broadcast across the bar and onto the large outdoor patio. In future months when warmer wather can be counted on, we intend to move the show outside.
